Plerandra or Schefflera elegantissima formerly Dizygotheca e. - “False Aralia”

Light: False aralia like to be near a sunny window where they will receive moderate to bright indirect light. They do not want direct sunlight however because it burns the leaves and turns the edges brown. 

Water: Water on a regular schedule. Drench the soil and allow any excess to drain completely. Once the soil is dry about 1 inch below the top, it is time to water again.

Environment: Temperature should be kept between 65 and 85 degrees. Humidity is beneficial. Avoid moving False Aralia as this can cause them to drop leaves. Spider mites and mealy bugs are pests of concern for this plant. Treat with an insecticidal soap if pests are present.

Toxicity: This plant is reported to be Non-toxic

Of Note:

• This plant has undergone several re-classifications so it may also go by the names Schefflera elegantissima, or Dizygotheca elegantissima. ‘False aralia’ is a consistent common name.

• They prefer to have their roots contained snugly in the planter.

• They do not like to be moved; a sudden change in location often causes leaves to drop. With consistent care, however, the plant will produce new leaves from the point of growth.

• When planting in a pot without a drainage hole, avoid over watering by estimating 25% of the container’s overall volume, with appropriate drainage materials incorporated when planting.
