Louteridium

This small tree grows in the understory of Central American rainforests. While rainfall is plentiful, one can imagine how quickly the forest’s soil dries.

Light: A part day of direct sun or consistent, intense ambient natural light.

Water: Water thoroughly and allow the top 10-20% of the soil’s surface to feel dry. In sunnier locations, you can maintain more even soil moisture. 

Environment: Humidity is helpful, but not essential. A standard, well-draining potting soil works well.

Toxicity: Stems and roots are technically toxic and therefore the leaves should be considered toxic (if ingested) as well.

Of Note:

• The unique flowers of Louteridium donnell-smithii are pollinated by bats in the wild. 

• Though evergreen, there may be fewer leaves held through the winter months.

*When planting in a pot without a drainage hole, avoid over watering by estimating 25% of the container’s overall volume, with appropriate drainage materials incorporated when planting.
