Matteuccia struthiopteris, otherwise known as "Ostrich Fern" lends a peaceful feeling to any setting. Graceful, vase-shaped fern displaying large, arching, ostrich-blooms fronds. Fast spreading, contributing lush, vibrant green color all summer. Deciduous. Subsp. pensylvanica differs slightly from the straight species by having a dark central stripe on the scales.  

  • Light: part shade to shade
  • Soil: rich, moist, well drained, regular garden soil
  • Spacing: 36"
  • Height at maturity: 3 - 4'
  • Pro tip: Plant crowns no more than 1 - 2" deep. Planting too deep is often fatal
  • Zones: 3 - 8
