The Salix matsudana 'Tortuosa', otherwise known as the "Dragon's Claw Willow" is a rapidly growing tree noted for its round head of twisted and contorted branches and leaves. Summer foliage is bright green above and whitish-green below, and is more drought tolerant than other willows. Makes for a breathtaking specimen, particularly in winter. Branches make for an interesting floral arrangement addition to add a sculptural element. 

  • Light: full sun to part shade
  • Soil: well drained, regular garden soil
  • Spacing: 15 - 25'
  • Height at maturity: 12 - 18"
  • Pruning: branches can be trimmed in the fall. May be pruned in late winter.
  • Fertilization: Slow release feed in spring
  • Growth rate: 25" or more per year.
  • Zones: 4 - 8
